Abalone Aquaculture in Australia began slowly in the late 1980's with rapid advancements now being made. South Australian Abalone Developments Pty Ltd operates a hatchery and grow out farm strategically located at the Centre for Aquaculture near Port Lincoln. The aquaculture abalone, referred to as 'cocktail' sized or Baby Abalone are grown to sizes between 70mm and 80mm shell length to satisfy market needs. Broodstock abalone are spawned in the state of the art hatchery by our resident Biologists. From here they are transferred to our nursery system for six months prior to transfer to our grow out system. The unique grow out system provides the abalone with an environment conducive to fast, healthy growth. The finished product supplied to the market place is of the highest quality. The cocktail abalone are marketed by Australian Southern Seafood under the Golden Phoenix brand.
